The Priory in the U.S. of the Order of St John

 

As head of The Priory in the United States of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, I am personally committed to making us an effective force for good, transcending religious and communal strife. Our Priory is proud to be part of the international organization based in London, with a fascinating history and a centuries-old humanitarian mission to prevent and relieve human suffering, and enhance the health and well-being of people of all races and creeds. Our mission dates back to the Order’s work in the Holy Land during the Crusades and continues to this day in that troubled area of the world.

The Priory in the U.S. retains the Order’s time-honored traditions and rituals. At the same time, we are a contemporary, multi-faith membership organization. Each year, we raise funds to support the work of The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital. Over the years, the Priory has generated millions of dollars for the Hospital, organized donations of medical supplies and equipment, and motivated volunteer doctors, specialist surgeons, and nurses to lend their expertise. We also contribute to Order of St John relief projects worldwide.

Our members take very seriously their solemn vow upon joining the Order of St John: To honor and live the principles Pro Fide, Pro Utilitate Hominum (For the Faith and in the Service of Humanity). We invite everyone -- and not just Members -- to help us realize our Order’s goals, which are even more timely and pragmatic in today’s chaotic world.
