The Order in the U.S.

In the U.S., The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem (www.orderofstjohn.org) is represented by The Priory in the United States of America, one of eight international Priories. The Priory’s main goal is to support the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital, founded in 1882 (www.stjohneyehospital.org). The Priory also contributes to other projects of The Order of St John, and responds to special appeals for disaster relief.

The Priory in the U.S. has over 1,000 Members (called Confrères) in many parts of the country. Membership in The Order of St John is by nomination of two current Members and based on a demonstrated commitment to local and/or national charitable work. Confrères make a yearly financial commitment, an Oblation, to the Priory. Over and above this, Members organize local fundraising events in their home areas. These events raise money and build community. Members are encouraged to attend a Service of Rededication and Investiture, held in a different city every year, and an Annual Meeting.
