The Priory in the USA of the Order of St John
The Priory in the United States of America of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem is committed to our ancient motto: Servi Dominorum Pauperum Infirmorum, "Servants of Our Lords the Sick Poor."
We try to live into that motto in two principal ways. We support an eye hospital in the Holy Land, and we are engaged in reaching out to our wounded veterans. Both efforts fulfill our motto and our heritage. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II serves as our Order’s Sovereign Head, and our historic roots reach back to the last quarter of the 11th century when our Order treated Christians, Jews and Muslims in Jerusalem. Our Order and this Priory honor and perpetuate the Order’s centuries-old traditions and rituals. At the same time, though, we are a contemporary, multi-faith membership organization.
Our Members take very seriously their solemn vow upon joining the Order of St John: To honor and live the principles Pro Fide, Pro Utilitate Hominum (For the Faith and in the Service of Humanity). We invite everyone -- and not just Members -- to help us realize our Order’s goals, which are even more timely and pragmatic in today’s troubled world.
